The Brothers of the Christian Schools (commonly known as the De La Salle Christian Brothers), were founded in France in 1680 by Saint John Baptist de la Salle, the Patron Saint of Teachers. They are a teaching congregation within the Catholic Church, with a global presence spanning 80 countries and educating over one million students.
Since the early 1960s, the De La Salle Christian brothers have been an integral part of the Educational landscape in Kenya, with 9 Lasallian Institutions of learning currently established in the country. Within our Archdiocese, the Brothers play a significant role, with their provincial headquarters situated in the Lavington neighborhood, and their houses of formation, including the novitiate and the scholasticate, located within the Karen-Lang’ata neighborhood.
Among their Educational endevors is the sponsorship of La Salle Catholic School in the same neighborhood, as well as the School of Education of Tangaza University College, a distinguished teacher training institute.
It is my honor to share with you the dream of Lasallians from the Lwanga District of Africa. Our sector has ventured into an ambitious project of building a world-class college in the heart of East Africa. Our project isn’t just about a new building, it’s about the young lives that will be transformed through Lasallian education.
Indeed, we are blessed to have friends like you, who support the growth and development of our District. Today, the Lwanga District includes ministries in six African countries (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa). We have one of the largest formation programs of new young De La Salle Christian Brothers. This blessing not only allows us to carry on the work of our Founder, Saint John Baptist de La Salle, but also allows us to expand our teaching ministries to the poor. East Africa is attracting large populations of young adults who need skilled educators. Kenya is the up-and-coming African hub of business, science and technology. We are here through God’s grace, to help provide an education to the increasing number of young men and women living in and around the informal settlements in Nairobi, but all students are welcome to our campus.
I pray that you will consider joining us to realize this life-changing dream. You are one of our brothers and sisters in Christ and this amazing project will be built by the faith and commitment of friends like you. I pray that you receive many blessings in return for your generous spirit of help. I thank you on behalf of the De La Salle Christian Brothers and pray that God will bless you for your compassion and generosity to educate the poor.
