History of The Brothers of the Christian Schools

The Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Christian Brothers, was founded by Saint John Baptist De La Salle (The Patron Saint of Teachers) in 1680. Since then, the Lasallian education mission that started small by establishing schools for the children of the working class and the poor in Reims, France, has expanded beyond borders and has now reached 80 countries across the globe, including Kenya (1950s).

The Generalate (Headquarters) of the Brothers of the Christian Schools serves as the residence of the Superior General and his Council.  From the seventeenth to the nineteenth century, the Generalate was located in France (Rouen, Lyon, Paris). However, it was transferred to Belgium (Lembecq-les Hall) in the early 20th century and has been in Rome since 1937.  It is from here that the De La Salle Institute is governed and where the administration of anything concerned with the Brothers of the Christian Schools is supervised.

The Governance Structure of the Brothers of the Christian Schools

The governance structure of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (De La Salle Christian Brothers) is organized to ensure effective leadership and management across the global network.  Here are the key components of the governance structure:
