I joined Christ the Teacher Institute for Education (CTIE), an Institute run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 2014. It was and is a wonderful journey to be part of this great Lasallian family. I joined the Institute feeling empty and uncertain of the future but left fulfilled and completely transformed.
Reflecting on where I started, where I am, and where I am headed; I am in awe of the woman I have become. I thank God and deeply appreciate the De La Salle Christian Brothers who saw the potential in me when I had lost hope. You turned my life around and made the world a better place for me. The suffering, the pain I had gone through, and the tears I had shed in pursuit of education, were shouldered particularly by one Lasallian individual, Mr. Joe, whose support and kindness left me holistically grown.
The opportunity to interact with people from different countries and diverse cultural backgrounds enriched a poor young girl’s (me) mindset which has enhanced my communication prowess and raised my self-confidence. I used to see myself as a lesser person; I couldn’t speak before many people but that is history now.
Indeed, the Lasallians are a community that creates a sense of belonging. Those who come from poor backgrounds like me are never left behind. Bright students with no hope of fulfilling their future dreams due to lack of tuition fees and or university upkeep costs find a home in the Lasallian Family.
CTIE gave me a rare life-changing opportunity. Without even a penny, I was able to actualize my dream of becoming a teacher through a scholarship opportunity. I count myself blessed since my tuition fees, upkeep, rent, and educational materials were catered for.
I celebrate the De La Salle Christian Brothers and the many friends who keep touching the hearts of the underprivileged young men and women thirsting for university education. Your support is not in vain. I have left CTIE empowered; a responsible and hardworking woman who is touching hearts, teaching minds, and transforming lives in society. I will forever remain grateful and proud to be a Lasallian. I am currently employed as a Biology and Computer teacher by the Teacher Service Commission of Kenya.
